SUA is proud to announce that in preparation of the 2010-2011 academic year we have reorganized our events into seven committees. Each committee has a specific focus, and meets weekly to plan upcoming SUA events at KU. Above this section you can see a list of SUA's committees, which currently reflect the 2009-2010 year. You can click on any of them to jump to that committee's page. For a brief explanation of what each committee does within SUA, you can read below.
For the 2010-2011 year we will be organized as follows:
CULTURAL ARTS - Manages SUA's Art Gallery, located in the Kansas Union, and puts on a variety of creative and artistic events, ranging from this Fall's Project Runway competition to an KU's Best Dance Crew in the spring.
FILMS AND MEDIA - Shows the latest movies almost every weekend in the Kansas Union, plus gives students a chance to see special sneak previews of coming attractions before they even hit theaters! Films and Media also produces fun live events with film themes, such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
COMEDY AND MUSIC COMMITTEE - Brings musicians, bands and comedians to campus for high-energy performances year after year. Ranging from local acts to international superstars like this year's acts Girl Talk and Passion Pit, Live Music plans something for every music fan at KU. Look for Pizza and a Comedian in the fall and possibly a big comedian!
SOCIAL ISSUES - Works to inform the campus and Lawrence community about current issues that society faces, and delivers though-provoking programming in a variety of ways, including speakers, activities, and awareness exercises.
SPECIAL EVENTS - Plans holiday activities, a fall carnival, and hosts Cosmic Bowling at the Jaybowl nearly every Friday and Saturday night. They will be hosting Beach 'n Boulevard during Hawk Week!
SPIRIT - Deals with all things KU, from Homecoming activities to football and basketball watch parties, and on up to the Hawk Zone, SUA's newest KU sports fan tradition that's attracting new student membership every day. Next year they will also be looking at adding recreation even
COMMUNICATIONS - Serves all of SUA's committees by marketing all events to the KU and Lawrence communities. Communications works for the entire organization to make every event a success. Communications also puts on open houses in the Kansas Union Lobby throughout the year.
EXECUTIVE - Comprised of SUA's President and its three Vice Presidents, the Executive Committee meets each week to discuss new event proposals, peer-advise committee coordinators, and act as SUA's top representatives both on and off campus.
The Summer Coordinator works all summer long to put on Unionfest at the start of each school year, kicking off Hawk Week on campus with free food, games, and fun.
